enduring the sessions

enduring the sessions

oppression

depression

repression

regression

suppression

aggression

digression

are all sessions

fought within the soul

principalities and dominions

is what i am told

places where mind is captured

in the realms of dark

and light struggles

to maintain

the saneness

fighting inaneness

upon the planes

of reason

and it fails

all too often

and prayer offers

but a brief relief

if your belief

is valiant enough

the teachings

offer comfort

if you have conformed

and wear the uniform

of compliance

for defiance

only brings to bear

more sessions of

oppression

depression

repression

regression

suppression

aggression

digression

and courage

to stand against the tide

or ride

that indoctrinated train

of social acquiescence

seems to escape

the thinking man

who is seeking certainty

and authenticity

for a free mind

that embraces awareness

absent of complicity

it seems as if

truth is an alien

who is riding

the etheric winds illusion

hiding

as if it too

has submitted

to the voodoo

of policy

and of those

who would cull

your blood

and your children’s dreams

for a dollar

or two

and the endless sessions continue

their venue

of infecting

our minds

as we sit reflecting

better days past

while vying

and complying our behaviors

to the lies we create

to survive

the convictions

we deny

every day

and Aretha said it all

when she sang

“Ain’t No Way”

yes,

how am i going to love you

if you won’t let me

better yet,

when will we learn

to love our self

and our children

and put an end

to the nonsense

and stop mounting defenses

within the shadowy world

of justification

because we wish to sleep

while the future souls of our children weep too

as we do

through every

act of

oppression

depression

suppression

aggression

digression
