there was a kept bird
who could not fly
no matter how much
it did not try

though the kept bird
did chirp and sing
it did not express
it’s untried wing

a kept bird’s wing
does well to flutter
like poet songstress
that speaks with stutter

but the kept bird’s heart
wishes for release
